Alternative car powering methods

by Corey Brown Cars run on gas right? Not always. Here is some info of alternative fuels with some information and pros on each.

Biodiesel: is a mix of diesel gas and vegetable oils. The pros of using this fuel are that it produces less carbon emissions and harmful particulates than standard gas. It is an increasingly easy choice for car buyers to make since there are many biodiesel-fueled models on offer. In terms of fuel availability, while biodiesel outlets may still show short supply nationally, drivers retain the choice of filling up with standard diesel gas. Finally, Biodiesel is more energy efficient in production than gas.

Ethanol:ethanol-fueled vehicles run on a mixture of gasoline and a propellant derived from grain. On the pro side, there are an increasing number of alternative fuel cars now being supplied for this market. The most popular ethanol fuel brand is E85. The name reflects the proportions of 85 percent ethanol to 15 percent gasoline used in the fuel. This makes it an emissions-friendly fuel. It also provides another potentially large and profitable market for arable farmers.

Hybrid Cars: Hybrid cars operate by using a combination of gasoline power and electric power. In addition to the gas tank they have an electric battery that stores energy during the speeding and slowing parts of a typical journey. The pros of this type of vehicle include the substantial saving in fuel costs through the engine's efficiency.

Hydrogen Cars: Hydrogen is a fuel that appears to have enormous possibilities. The pros begin with the fact it comes from water and is, therefore, a renewable fuel with inexhaustible supplies and benefits in fuel cost. The exhaust from a hydrogen-fueled car is totally environment-friendly. Hydrogen cars also give the driver excellent mileage compared to regular gasoline cars.

Robotics

His name is DK and he is the future of robotics. He isn't an inventor, isn't a designer, he is in fact the product. He doesn't have a bionic leg, not a bionic arm but, he has literally never been living. This "man" is completely made of metal, wires, and other non living material. This is the first non Japanese model and is German. The Chinese creator used revolutionary robotics on the face so it could carry human characteristics. Here a comparison of it with and without the fully done face.
Now if your afraid of the robot apocalypse don't worry it is remote controlled by a user not an a.i. A video showing his movement that is pretty unhuman like can be found here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZlLNVmaPbM&feature=player_embedded

Now a scary look at the face in worktime compared to the finished one above.

Is it worth it.

The average family spends $1900 dollars a year on electricity alone. However , many families have made the switch to solar actually started making money. Electric companies have started paying for the excess electricity made by the panels. This way instead of losing money you can make it by selling off your excess electricity.

Cool Roofs

Cool roofs, otherwise known as solar reflectants , send solar heat rays back away to mild out the temperature. These roofs can decrease air conditioner and heating cost and also you don't have to pay for a new one as they wont brake down unless your entire house is destroyed. Another effect is that the pollution from the coal being burned to fuel for the energy doesn't exist as it uses the unlimited natural energy of the sun. Overall, I believe these roofs are a win win for your wallet and the enviroment.

The Afterburn

Afterburner: an additional componet added to some jet engines, primarly on military on supersonic aircraft.

Afterburn: a production proven vlumetric effects plugin.

The Afterburn: A website operated by Fruita 8/9 Gifted and talented students that has completley changed the entire school. When Fruita 8/9 was constructed it wasn't extremely energy wasteful or have a bad energy setup it was just average. Now the school has been given a thumbs up by energy star, has many rooms filled with natural sky lights, and saves tons of cash on the energy bill. They use this money for better school; equipment, teachers, and social events. To think all this came from as simple idea as a blog website.

Another Is it really that great electric

Fluorescent light bulbs save energy costS, but are they dangerous?
Fluorescent light bulbs contain at least 5 mg of highly toxic mercury. In Maine, homeowners had to evacuate their house after a flourescent light bulb broke next to an air vent. Thankfully this small amount of mercury cannot kill a human and these light bulb's rarely break.

Does electric really save?

Many people are making the switch to electric cars to help the enviroment, but I wanted to look at how much it really saves. Most electricity used to power electric cars is made by burning coal thus making it still not an unlimited or reusable resource. Regardless of this fact the emissions per mile driven would be 3 to 1 electric with less CO2 released. Therefore, electrics truly are better for the ozone layer.

Swimming Pool heating

Now is probably not the most needed time to learn about pool heating but here we go anyway. In order to keep a pool warm, your pants warm from all the extra money in your pocket you should do the following for your pool.

1.) Buy a thicker more reliable pool cover.

2.)Install a solar powered or high efficent heater.

3.) Operate the pump less or buy a more energy efficent one.

4.) Lower water temperature or turn off equipment when you are going on a trip.

"other ideas"

5.) Deal with the cold

6.) Move to Arizona, Mexico or any other really hot place.

New Nanochip Technology

IBM recently revealed a computer chip that would run on light instead of electricity. When pulses of light occur inside by light electricity or by solar power the chip retains this power to fuel the soon to be produced computer. IBM officals say this technology could be developed into smaller handheld devices and could help save people many dollars as well as save elctricity.

SAVE Energy and SAVE Money

The average household will spend $5000 more than they need to in energy bills. If you want to save money on energy bills you must think about pros and cons. In order to save money you must spend extra to get the equipment as more advanced technology is more expensive. Overall a fully new energy saving home will make up in the cost in as little as 4 months. Consumer reports.org/ home garden

Energy saving ideas

1.Use your blinds, open them in Winter on the sunny side to let heat in... close them on the non sunny side then do vice versa for summer.

2.Replace filters regularly

3.Find a system with a high SEER the higher the better.

4.Make sure vents have nothing over them or anything reducing air flow.

5. Make sure all doors are closed to prevent heat from escaping.

Green Roofs

By: Corey Brown

How would you feel to treat a nice growing prospering garden, on the top of a 30 story aprtment building. A new resoulution is surfacing through the energy saving ideas of the world and that is green roofing. Some advantages of green roofing are the following, providing insellation, creating a habitat for wildlife, and helping to lower Co2 in the air in major cities. Green roofs are an easy green way to provideinsellation to top room apartments. Hopefully they will soon be more common around the world.

Solar Motrcycles

By: Corey Brown

In Indianapolis a student has discovered how to use solar panels outside of just racing vehicles in that he has made the first successful solar powered motorcycle. When you are stopped the panels will fold out in order to charge the electric powered vehicle. The only problem with this vehicle is that it can only travel a few miles before having to charge up.

Biodiesel Fuel

Biodiesel fuel will be the future of powering everyday cars, when we run out of gasoline. The US biodiesel industry could support about 78,000 american jobs. The up-side to this fuel, is you can just go to a fast food resturaunt and get the oil usually for free. The down-side is the machine to convert it to diesel is about 3,800 dollars. Some things you need to know before you invest the money are if its cold enough, it could turn to gel, or slush. You also might need to change gas tanks after a few years of use. Biodiesel will be the next fuel, after we run out of gas.

All Natural Home

By: Corey Brown

In wales an all natural house has been built by Simon Dale. If more people built all natural houses the waste of energy from building equipment would be drastically decreased. Now from the outside this house may appear to be built only for a hobbit( Where Simon got the idea from.) but upon a closer look you see it is actually plenty big for this 4 person family. Hopefully more natural homes will be built in the future to reduce Co2 emissions.
